During my year with AmeriCorps, I worked with Independent School District 622 in North Saint Paul, MN. During this time, I advised a group of high school youth (shown in the video) and they piloted a program called Project SWAG (Students Working on the Achievement Gap.) This was a three-fold project where a training was developed to build mentoring skills with high schoolers. volunteering was completed in the schools to promote literacy (as studies show that youth who cannot read proficiently by 3rd grade are at risk of not graduating in four years), and video production was completed to raise awareness in the community. |
